Superfood Protein Shake

Hello March! With a new month comes a new vow to eat healthier and enjoy more protein shakes! I used to make super heavy shakes to keep me full all day, but I’ve found recently that I enjoy getting a bunch of healthy things into one cup like this superfood protein shake recipe and drink it while I work out. It keeps me from getting light-headed while I’m sweating it out and holds me over until my first real solid meal of the day.

Superfoods

When I came up with this superfood protein shake I was striving for nutrient-rich ingredients to start my day off right. Like brain function, energy and antioxidants. Basically, as many great things as I can get, all in one shake. I feel like I nailed it.

In no particular order, let us break down the four superfoods in this shake:  Goji berries, Camu Camu powder, beetroot powder and Maca powder on a table.

 

1. Goji Berries

These sweet and sour dried berries are widely consumed in China their long list of health benefits. Not only are they a great source of vitamins and minerals, but they also contain 8 essential amino acids. Goji berries also contain carbohydrates that are complex carbs, meaning less chance of a sugar crash.  You can buy it on Amazon.

2. Camu Camu

They’re not the most well-known fruit on the market, but they’re power-packed with so many great health benefits. One of the main benefits being high in vitamin C., Camu Camu berries are also high in antioxidants, improve cardiovascular health and helps in the aid of weight loss.

If you buy from this Peruvian owned family business, they donate $2 of every bag to the community that grows and harvests this product.

3. Beetroot Powder

The main reason I love beetroot powder is for blood circulation. It also improves brain function, improves heart health and supports bone health. It also makes this superfood protein shake super vibrant and beautiful. You can get in on Amazon.

 4. Maca Powder

This plant-based superfood supports energy and promotes balance in the body. Maca has multiple health benefits including improving learning and memory, reducing sun damage, improving mood and fighting free radicals. You can buy it on Amazon.

Note: It’s best to research these superfoods before consuming to make sure they’re the right for your personal diet and won’t affect any medications you may be taking.

Superfood Protein Shake

I always use a high-quality unsweetened vanilla almond milk and my favorite blender is the NutriBullet! It’s so easy to use, it’s small and easy to clean. I even have one in my horse trailer so I can make this shake when I’m on the road.

This particular shake is great because of all the health benefits, but not as high in protein as most whey protein shakes tend to be. Which is good if your focus is maintaining weight or even trying to cut weight (maybe ditch the banana in that case).

Additional Ingredients

If you’re looking for more protein alongside these superfoods, you can always add a vegan protein like pea protein or if vegan isn’t your thing, whey protein or collagen peptides can also be added for extra benefits. It all depends on where you’re at in your diet and workout routine. Hope you like it!

This shake combines four superfoods, a banana and almond milk for a healthy way to start your day.

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp Camu Camu Powder
  • 1 tsp Maca Powder
  • 1 tbsp Beetroot Powder
  • 1 Banana
  • 1 Handful Goji Berries
  • 1 cup Unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 4 Ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Mix all ingredients in a blender and serve.
